Vacation in the Upper Palatinate

There are many reasons to spend the best time of the year in the Upper Palatinate.

The Naab River and the Naab Valley

The river Naab is about 100 m from the hotel and can be reached on foot, where anglers can enjoy a peaceful, natural environment. The Naab is classified as a nature reserve in most areas and is home to many bird species and other wildlife. The Naab Valley, the 'Grand Canyon' of the Upper Palatinate, offers easy hiking, cycling, and boating routes suitable for beginners and families.

Further information can be found on the website of the operator 'Oberpfälzer Wald'.

The Way of St. James

An old pilgrim saying goes: 'The Way of St. James begins at your doorstep.' In fact, a section of the Upper Palatinate Way of St. James runs just 50 m from the hotel, partly along the Naab River. The entire Upper Palatinate route stretches from Eslarn (near the Czech border) to Ensdorf, about 89 km.

You can find further information on the official website of the German Camino de Santiago Center.

The City of Schwandorf

The city of Schwandorf is a large district town with an area of over 120 km² and a population of nearly 30,000. You can reach the city center from the hotel in about 30–45 minutes on foot or 5–10 minutes by car, public transport, or taxi, where you can enjoy the view of the old town from the street cafés or explore the cultural offerings.

You can find further information on the website of the City of Schwandorf.

The Upper Palatinate Lake District

After the end of lignite mining more than 30 years ago, the Upper Palatinate Lake District was created — an attractive tourist region with a unique landscape and numerous leisure activities. Visitors can expect an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails, idyllic fishing spots, many riding opportunities, and other sports activities.

Further information can be found on the official website of the 'Oberpfälzer Seenland' Special Purpose Association.

The Upper Palatinate Forest

This north–south mountain range along the border between Bavaria and the Czech Republic stretches over 100 km between Waldsassen in the north and Waldmünchen in the south. It can be reached from our hotel in about 1 hour by car. Deep valleys, wide views, romantic towns, villages, castles, ruins, remote churches, chapels, and many leisure opportunities are the strengths of the Upper Palatinate Forest.

You can find further information on the website of the Upper Palatine Forest Tourism Association.

The Wooden Adventure Sphere

In front of the beautiful backdrop of Lake Steinberg stands the world’s largest walkable wooden sphere. On clear days, you can even see it from our terrace. You can reach the Wooden Adventure Sphere in about 15 minutes by car or 45 minutes by bike.

Further information can be found on the website of the 'Holzkugel' operators.

Anyone who gives it a try will hardly be able to resist planning their next discovery tour through the Upper Palatinate instead of traveling far away.
